Ultonia Communications was founded in 1999, specializing initially in advice on language policy and translations, later expanding to include a range of information brokering and public affairs services.

Work so far has included:

  • a major Feasibility Study for the North/South Language Body in 2000;
  • management of marketing for the Celtic Film Festival in 2003, which returned a profit for only the second time in 25 years;
  • media relations advice to the Parades Commission to 2004, transferring it successfully from the party-political arena to the community arena and opening up relationships with new, key groups;
  • communications strategies for the NI Legal Services Commission to 2005, including a new relationship with Solicitors' Associations;
  • development of a funding strategy for Vinegar Hill Productions to 2006, targeting key cross-border and language groups;
  • research and drafting of a report for the Centre for Social Justice, to be presented to the UK Government in 2010.

Ian James Parsley (Chairman): based in Belfast and specializing in media and political communications strategies, Ian is experienced in every angle of influencing public opinion and government policy. He has worked as a Public Affairs consultant for clients in all sectors such as Norbrook Ltd and Countryside Alliance Ireland, and handled complex Media Relations accounts such as for the Parades Commission and Legal Services Commission. He also has inside experience of the workings of the devolved administration in Northern Ireland and how it links to Westminster, having developed excellent links within the Conservative Party and Liberal Democrats, worked for two years at Stormont itself as a Policy Adviser, and served for six years himself as a local Councillor. Well versed in European Affairs as well, Ian speaks fluent German and Spanish and has good contacts with MEPs and advisers from across the political spectrum in Brussels.

Annika Nestius Brown (Events): born in Stockholm and now based in County Down, Annika is an international media commentator on Northern Ireland affairs, particularly in the field of education. She has well established contacts in all political parties and across the voluntary sector. 

Gavin Falconer (Translations/Editing): born in Scotland and based in Belfast, Gavin has worked as a professional editor in both Dáil Éireann and the Northern Ireland Assembly as well as one of the leading players in the development of innovative translation techniques.

Chris Pilkington (Research): based in Yorkshire with an academic background in conflict resolution, Chris' research experience was with a regional Assembly, having previously worked on projects for community groups and cross-border bodies in Ireland. He now works primarily on sustainable development issues within local and regional government in England.
